Family Engagement
Nelson Mandela Elementary (NME) is unique in many ways, and one of the most unique factors is its emphasis on family engagement. The Mandela team firmly supports this and the research that links scholar success with family engagement. Families are asked to complete and log 25 hours of engagement per school year (approximately 5 hours per term).]
Families that also have a scholar at the Nelson Mandela Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) are asked to complete a total of 40 hours of engagement (15 at NME, 15 at ECDC, and 10 flexible to either building).
There are many different ways to get involved at Nelson Mandela Elementary. Engagement hours fall under three categories: academic, community, and extra curricular. We believe scholars will be the most successful if families are engaged in all three categories.

Please note: Families with a scholar at both NME and ECDC must complete an additional five hours in each category.
