Mrs. Core - Principal

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”~ Mahatmi Ghandi

Genevive (Grant) Core was born and raised in North Omaha. She attended Belvedere Elementary, McMillan Jr. High, and graduated from South High School in 1994. Genevive always knew she wanted to be an educator since she was in the first grade. She began her career as a first grade teacher at Walnut Hill Elementary. During her first year, she obtained her Master's degree through the Cadre program at UNO. The next year she was placed at Florence Elementary, where she spent 14 years teaching first and second grade(one of those years a combination class of 1st and 2nd grade).

In 2013, Genevive began a new position as the Instructional Facilitator and Academic Data Representative at Martin Luther King Elementary School. She enjoyed being an Instructional leader and supporting the staff, students, and families. She loved her position so much that she decided to go back to school for administration. She graduated from Doane University with a Masters degree in Administration in May of 2019.

Genevive is married to her supportive husband Marcus. They share six wonderful children together... Khalil, LaRon, Veronica, TreVaughn, Janae, and Janessa.

Genevive states, “It is truly an honor to be at Nelson Mandela Elementary as the Principal. Ever since they renovated Blessed Sacrament in 2013, I’ve wanted to be a part of the beacon of light that was being transformed into Nelson Mandela. The hope that is instilled in every scholar will assist them through their life journey. I can’t wait to see them grow, learn, and thrive!”
