Marlaney Deras - Teacher

Marlaney Deras was born and raised in Fairbury, NE and moved to Omaha in 2022 to pursue her degree in Elementary Education. She attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and graduated from there in 2026 with her degree in Elementary education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education. During her time at UNO she started working for Kids Can at Nelson Mandela ECDC where she worked for 3 years. While at ECDC she grew to love the scholars and team members there and wanted to help out more. She started with helping out during no nap club and then eventually subbing in the classrooms when needed. This experience led her to want to continue working with this school community after graduation. Marlaney is very excited to be starting at Nelson Mandela Elementary as a Kindergarten teacher! 

Marlaney’s mission is to create a safe, joyful classroom where every child feels loved, valued, and inspired to learn while nurturing curious minds, kind hearts, and confident learners through meaningful experiences and strong relationships.
