Alumni Volunteer Program

Volunteer

Our Summer Alumni Volunteer Application is Now Closed.

Apply for summer 2025 starting February 3, 2025.

Mandela graduates who have completed sixth grade are welcome to volunteer as a part of our alumni summer volunteer program.

Alumni volunteers are an essential part of the Meerkat family. They bring both enthusiasm and their capability to act as mature role models. They also bring an extra set of hands to help our team members maximize the fun and academic success of the summer programming for our scholars.

Alumni volunteers will assist one or more team members with the activities that scholars will be involved in or around the building. Volunteers will be asked to complete tasks, assist in the classroom and/or assist with afternoon activities. It is important for the volunteer to be responsible, honest, trustworthy, and respectful. Volunteers will remain with their designated assignments unless otherwise assigned.
Applications are posted on the NME website at the beginning of April each school year, and they will close at the end of the month. Interested applicants must complete an application online and submit a copy of their most recent progress report in order for their application to be considered complete. Applicants will receive confirmation from the alumni coordinator with the status of their acceptance into the volunteer program.
The summer session runs in both June and July, with breaks for Juneteenth and the Fourth of July. Alumni volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of three weeks of the summer in order to be a consistent presence for scholars and their assigned teacher.
