Erika Mardock - School Counselor

Hello, Meerkat families!

This is my 3rd year at Mandela and my 8th year as a school counselor. I have been working in education since graduating from UNL in 2008 and relocating to teach language arts at King Science. After completing an MS in Curriculum and Instruction, I accepted a high school position at the Omaha Street School and soon found a passion for helping students cope with life’s challenges. I began my school counseling journey in 2015 and served in this capacity at Miller Park elementary as well as Lewis and Clark middle school.

I enjoy engaging with students through music, stories, puppet shows and mindfulness practices. My mission as a school counselor is to ensure that all students have equitable access to a high quality education. My hope is that every child feels welcomed, affirmed and valued for their unique strengths when they come to school each day. Mandela is a special place and I am grateful to work with our scholars, their families, and a wonderful team.

When I'm not busy helping little people deal with big feelings, I spend time at home in midtown with my husband Luther, my daughter Margot and our golden doodle, Crispin.
