Sho Shann Smith - Teacher
Sho Shann Smith was born and raised in North Omaha. She was educated in the Omaha Public school system. She attended Belvedere Elementary, McMillian Junior High and she graduated from Harry A. Burke High School. As a very young child, Sho Shann knew she was born to be an educator. She recalls playing school in the basement of her home with other children from the neighborhood. Her only rule was that she would be the teacher.
Sho Shann worked as a teacher’s assistant at St. Paul Lutheran School. While working there she made the decision to go back to school to obtain her teaching certification from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. After graduating, Sho Shann was a substitute teacher for Omaha Public Schools. Shortly thereafter she was offered a position as a 3 rd grade teacher at her elementary school, Belvedere. ShoShann taught 3rd grade for 10 years before making the decision to teach fourth grade. During her time at Belvedere, Sho Shann was selected to participate in a cohort and there she earned a Master’s Degree in Reading through the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Sho Shann enjoys giving back and volunteering in her community. She also works with the youth in her church on the educational committee. She is the mother of 3 amazing children, DaeJ’anira, Calvin, and Shania. Sho Shann is also a proud member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Teaching is Sho Shann’s calling and in education, she has found her passion. She feels that when you are educating, molding, and influencing the minds of children, you must keep in mind that teaching is heart work.
Sho Shann is overjoyed to be joining the Meerkat family and looks forward to being a loving, caring, and effective member of the team. “The best teachers are those that show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see.” -Alexandria K. Trenfor
