How to Apply

The mission of Nelson Mandela Elementary is to provide quality instruction that demonstrates ALL scholars can learn and develop academically, emotionally, socially and physically. Nelson Mandela Elementary is committed to maximizing the educational success of all scholars and bridging the learning and achievement gaps.

Application Steps - Kindergarten Enrollment

  1. Complete online application.
  2. Attend a mandatory informational meeting.
  3. Pick up and complete all required paperwork.
  4. Attend Kindergarten Round Up/Tour NME Campus.
  5. Schedule a parent interview.

Application Timeline - Kindergarten Enrollment

  • December: Online application open.
  • January: Mandatory Informational Meetings
  • February: Kindergarten Round Up, paperwork, parent interviews.
  • March: Interviews conclude. Applications reviewed.
  • April: Applicants contacted with their status in the enrollment process.
  • June/July: Selected scholars participate in Kindergarten Jump Start.
  • Mid-July: Accepted scholars welcomed at Acceptance Night.

Application Steps - Grades 1-2 Enrollment

  1. Complete online application.
  2. Submit teacher recommendation, most recent progress report, and MAP scores.
  3. Complete parent interview and required paperwork.

  • March: Online application open. Parent Interviews.
  • April: Enrollment status communication sent out.
  • June/July: Selected scholars participate in Summer Boot Camp.
  • Mid-July: Accepted scholars welcomed at Acceptance Night.

Summer Programming - Kindergarten Jump Start and Boot Camp

Kindergarten Jump Start Program

Selected scholars will participate in the full-day Kindergarten Jump Start program, which is Monday through Friday, 8:00-3:30 PM in June and July, at the Nelson Mandela Early Childhood Development Center. They have lessons in the morning and activities and enrichment in the afternoons. They will visit the elementary school for breakfast and lunch to familiarize themselves with the school.

Summer Boot Camp Program

Selected scholars will participate in the full-day Summer Boot Camp Program, which is Monday through Friday, 8:00-3:30 PM in June and July. They have lessons in the morning and join their current grade level for lunch and activities in the afternoon.
